The “Be Your Best Selfie Event” is my greatest accomplishment to date. Two years ago it was brought to my attention that pre-teen and teenage girls at a school in Camden, New Jersey were presenting to school with poor hygiene and had little self-worth. I truly believe that self-love and knowing your worth is the prime ingredient for every look you wish you to achieve. Therefore I came up with the “Be Your Best Selfie” event that would be completed annually with pre-teen and teenage girls in inner-city schools. During the event, the young ladies are introduced to women in various careers and the young ladies participate in a group discussion about their goals and what it takes to achieve them. Each young lady completed a vision board with the help of a volunteer. Lastly, each young lady chooses a style of their choice for their hair, a manicure, and a “Be Your Best Selfie” goody bag with various items that promote self-care such as deodorant, body lotion, body spray, hand sanitizer, and other donated items to promote Girl Power! in the beauty industry.
